Our research explores the serious water challenges that confront regions, the nation and the globe and how we can address these challenges to create just and sustainable water futures. We work hand in hand with public and private sector partners to produce evidence-based water research grounded in the latest thinking and technology. ​

Launched in 2023, our flagship projects initiative seeks to incubate new ideas that provide holistic solutions to complex water-related problems. These ideas must be interdisciplinary and collaborative in nature, and bring together expertise from across the IWF’s research base. We aim to support our researchers to develop these ideas into fully-fledged project proposals that are competitive for external funding. ​

We support our flagship projects by providing resourcing including time, funding, administrative support and senior mentorship to encourage teams to collaborate across disciplinary boundaries. ​
